How to Stream Your Eye Surgeries with Webex: A Step-by-Step Guide

In today’s digital age, the ability to share information and collaborate in real time has become essential, even in the field of medicine. One such technology that has gained popularity for this purpose is Webex, a video conferencing and collaboration platform with great-quality image streaming. Medical professionals have been using Webex not only for meetings and consultations but also for streaming surgeries to a broader audience, facilitating knowledge sharing and learning. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the steps to stream your surgeries using Webex.

Step 1: Log In or Create an Account

The first step in streaming your surgeries with Webex is to log in or create an account. If you don’t already have one, follow these simple steps:

1.Open your laptop or computer and visit webex.com.

2.Click “Sign up! It’s free” and follow the instructions to create your Webex account.

3.After completing the account creation process, you’ll receive an email with a link to set up your username and password.

Step 2: Download the Webex App on Your Smartphone

Once you have the app installed, log in using your Webex account credentials.

Step 3: Start a Meeting with No Individual Participant Approval

To stream your surgery, you will need to initiate a Webex meeting. If you already have a Personal Room, you can proceed to schedule your surgery stream. However, if you need to set up your Personal Room and want to allow participants to join without individual approval, here are the steps:

1.If you see “Set Up My Personal Room” instead of your Personal Room link, click “Set Up My Personal Room.”

2.Enter the Personal Room link in the format https://company.webex.com/meet/username and provide your host PIN.

3.If you’re unsure about your Personal Room link and host PIN, you can find them in your Webex site preferences. If they’re not available, contact your site administrator.

4.Click “Save.”

With your Personal Room set up to allow participants to join freely, you can now host your surgery stream in a secure and private environment without the need to accept each participant individually. Invite others to join your surgery stream at any time by sharing the link to your Personal Room in a message or by using the “Invite and remind” feature within the meeting.

Step 4: Start Your Surgery Stream

Once your Personal Room is ready, you can start your surgery stream. Here’s how to do it on different devices:

On a Laptop or Computer:

1.Log in to your Webex account.

2.Click on “Meetings.”

3.Find your Personal Room link and click “Start Meeting.”

On an iPhone or iPad:

1.Open the Webex app.

2.Tap the global action button and select “Start a Meeting.”

3.Choose your audio and video settings before joining the meeting.

4.Tap “Join Meeting.”

On Android:

1.Open the Webex app.

2.Tap the global action button and select “Start a Meeting.”

3.Choose your audio and video settings.

4.Tap “Join Meeting.”

Step 5: Share your screen and go to MicroREC App

While the Beam Splitter may introduce image rotation, it’s not always ideal. However, with the MicroREC App, a dedicated free application for microscopic imaging recording, you can regain control. In addition to features like image rotation, the app allows you to enhance image quality through adjustments like white balance and exposure. Most importantly, it empowers you with precise manual focus control.

Manual focus becomes particularly critical during live surgeries, ensuring that your smartphone camera captures the exact details you need. This is akin to the precision you’d expect from a pair of high-quality binoculars.

Now that you’ve started your surgery stream, you can invite people to join the stream. They will receive invitations, and if they have a Webex account, they’ll get a notification. If not, they’ll receive an email invitation. Depending on your Webex App plan, you may be able to add more than one person to the stream.

Webex also supports end-to-end encryption for your meetings, ensuring the privacy and security of your surgery stream.

In conclusion, Webex offers a convenient and secure platform for streaming surgeries and sharing medical knowledge with a broader audience. By following these simple steps, you can make your surgeries accessible to medical professionals and students, promoting collaborative learning and advancement in the field of medicine.
